About 270 km along the old Silk Road through the Zarafshan valley. The drive takes 4–6 hours, depending on how often you stop, and the stops are the reason to go by car rather than by train.
On the way you can see the ruined portal of the Rabat-i Malik caravanserai and its domed cistern, the Sardoba, near Navoi, and the ceramic workshops of Gijduvan, where families have made glazed pottery for generations, just before Bukhara. Tell us in the notes and we will plan the time.
Your driver collects you from your hotel in Samarkand and drops you as close as a car can get to your hotel in Bukhara; in the old town lanes he will help you with your bags to the door.
