Safed Dara Ski Day from Dushanbe: Private 4×4 to Tajikistan's Mountain Resort
A day on the snow at Safed Dara, 50 km north of Dushanbe: a private 4×4 from your hotel and a driver who waits all day, floodlit runs, and snow tubing and sledges for non-skiers. Mid-December to about 20 March.
About this trip
Safed Dara, the old Takob resort, rebuilt and reopened in 2016, is Tajikistan's ski resort in the mountains 50 km north of Dushanbe: three floodlit runs of about 2 km in all at 2,300 m, lifts, a hotel and a restaurant. For non-skiers there is snow tubing, sledges and snowmobile rides.
This is a private day: your own 4×4 and driver, who takes you up in the morning, waits while you ski and brings you back when you are ready.
How the day goes
About nine to ten hours. Pickup at your Dushanbe hotel at around 08:00 and about 1–1.5 hours into the mountains. At Safed Dara you buy your lift pass and rent your equipment at the resort; lunch at its restaurant is paid on the spot. In the late afternoon your driver brings you back to Dushanbe.
Good to know
- The season starts once there is at least 20 cm of snow, usually in mid-December, and lasts until about Navruz (20 March).
- Lift passes and rental are not included; they are paid at the resort.
- The price is for the car, not per person: a 4×4 for 1 to 4 travellers, or a minivan for 5 to 7.

Day by day
- Pickup in Dushanbe
Your driver collects you from your hotel at around 08:00 and drives north into the mountains, about 1–1.5 hours.
- A day on the snow
Lift pass and equipment at the resort, then skiing or snowboarding on Safed Dara's runs, or snow tubing and sledges.
- Lunch at the resort
Lunch at the resort's restaurant, paid on the spot.
- Back to Dushanbe
Your driver brings you back to your hotel in the late afternoon.
